The Navy Directory

Welcome to the Directory. This is a list of all of the members of the Navy who are here to help you on your exploration of the forums. You can send any of these people a PM asking a question about the forums or the groups that they are part of.

To make your quest to find a specific group easier, each member has been given badges depending on their groups. The groups are:

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/Roxy_Black/Beta.jpg
Betas. These members are part of the Beta program which is here to help members with their writing and editing.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/Roxy_Black/Hogwarts.jpg
Hogwarts. These members take part in the Hogwarts writing classes at the bottom of our forums.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/Roxy_Black/BannermakersAssociation.jpg
Bannermakers. The Bannermakers are the elite members who design and create fantastic author and fiction banners for everyone to use.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/Roxy_Black/PoetryAnyone.jpg
Poetry Anyone. The forums' poets have their own group to improve and set challenges for the other poets.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/Roxy_Black/SBBC.jpg
Susan Bones's Book Club. This is a book group who read and discuss MNFF's best fanfiction.

SPEW is the Society for the Promotion of Evaluations for Writers. They work hard to produce good quality reviews for the fictions on our site.

EDIT: and the mods aren't scary
Weird...I wrote this before I saw your post. *Giggle*

Name: Mariah...you can call me Mariah. ;)
House: Hufflepuff!
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Right now, the Beta Guild and the Beta Mentoring program, but I hope to join SPEW soon.
Ways to contact you: PM (private messaging)
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Mods aren't scary. They don't have fangs or any werewolf-like tendencies...don't let them intimidate you! If ever you have a question, or a concern about anything on the site, don't hesitate to contact them; they're here to help, and while you may feel like you're being bothersome, you'll usually be glad you asked.

...Just make sure to read the FAQ first.:p

And, of course, welcome to the forums!

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/Roxy_Black/HogwartsStudent.jpg

mugglemathdork
04-04-2007, 17:59
Name: mugglemathdork (forums)/mgle_teacher (MNFF), but you can call me Ritta...it's easier for everyone involved.

House: Ravenclaw

Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Erm...Hogwarts Student; Gauntlet Guide; Beta Mentor; Ravenclaw House Unity 007; Quidditch Team; Dumbledore's Navy...Lol. I'd like to join SPEW or even SBBC, but I don't have the time for it.

Ways to contact you: PM and AIM are your best bets. Usually PM unless you have a lot of questions then I'll get on AIM...loads easier.

Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Don't overwhelm yourself with all the activity. Pick one or two things you want to join or participate in, and excel at it. Don't stretch yourself too much or you'll burn out...and if you do stretch yourself too thin - always keep in mind that everyone here understands RL takes priorities. We won't bite and bark. Lol. And if you ever have any questions, make sure you ask. Don't feel bad if anyone ever calls you out on forum etiquette...it's much better than losing house points. =]
Luck!
~Ritta

GinnyPotter
04-04-2007, 18:09
Name: GinnyPotter here, Gin_PotterGirl on MugglenetFanfiction (MNFF), and my Real Name is Michelle. You can call me Ginny or Gin though also.
House: Hufflepuff
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Hufflepuff House, Student, Dumbledore's Navy, Poetry Anyone, Bannermarkers Association (BA), Guantlet Guides.
Ways to contact you: PM. Once I know you very well, then by Email.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums:

Mods aren't scary.

Just make sure to read the FAQ first

With the FAQ thing, don't ask questions to mods that have been answered 1,000,000,000,000 times all ready. It drives them mad. Also, don't be afriad to ask for help. It makes your life easier if you talk to people. That way, you won't be very lonely here.

Don't SPAM.

And, if you want to start up a topic but doesn't know if someone has posted it or don't kno where to post it, ask any of the Mods....or us.

~Michelle :)

Eowyn89
04-04-2007, 18:23
Name: Eowyn89 (Katie)

House: Hufflepuff!

Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Summer School Students, Poetry Anyone?, Dumbledore’s Navy, I hope to someday join the BA, and Beta Guild (if I could ever pass that test!)…I float around pretty much everywhere…

Ways to contact you: Well, for your first few questions you can PM, and once I get to know you a bit better, we can set up e-mail, AIM, or MSN…

Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Read the directions!!! More often than not, people don’t follow the instructions that are always posted on the top of the sub-levels that say “Read First!” —it never hurts to read through the rules for each sub-level of the Forums. Also, if you’re unsure about something, don’t be afraid to ask questions! We are all here to help you! And one last bit of advice, watch and learn! Don’t go all post-happy at the beginning. Read through some threads, and familiarize yourself with the formats of things, that is how I learned….

Welcome!

~Katie:)

Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Students, Poetry Anyone?, The Badger Bulletin (a group in the Hufflepuff CM) and this lovely NAVY! EDIT: I'm also a Professor!
Ways to contact you: There are several ways to get ahold of me!

a)PM (do this option first!)
b)Yahoo! Messenger
c)E-mail
d)AIM

Those are in the order of the way I'd like you to contact me. You must send a PM first before I give you any other screen names. AIM is far down becuase I'm never on.

Your top tip about surviving on the forums:

When in doubt, ask!!!!!!!!!!! Don't be afraid to. When you are unsure about something, look for the answer, and if you can't find it, ask an experienced member of the forums or a mod. Everyone here is friendly, and there's no way to bite you from the computer.:p Seriously though, no one will make you feel bad, everyone is really nice!

So instead of spending an hour or more trying and failing to make something work, save yourself the grief and ask. And don't be afraid to ask anyone; mods and older members of the house can be valuable resourses. Remember- headdesk kills.

Also, try to be mindful of your spelling, capitalization, and punctuation in your post. I know I had issues with that at first! Just make sure you proofread before you hit submit. :p

Ways to contact you: PM, AIM, or emial, any one is fine!

Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Don't be afraid to speak out on a board, people arn't going to think badly of you just for expressing your views, if anything, they will think higher of you! Also, make sure that you know exactly what the board is for, and if you post has to contain anything specific. (i.e. when looking for a beta, you need to include facts about your story.)

Ways to contact you: PM, e-mail, AIM . . . in that order.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Make sure you don't resort to netspeak when posting on the forums as it annoys the Mods to no end, hehe. (They are very nice, by the way.) If you participate in any of the writing challenges, always try to find a beta to proof it first.

Name: Becca
House: Gryffindor
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: The Navy, Summer School Students, I was on the Gryffindor house Quidditch World Cup team, and I'm looking to clear some space in my schedule to join SPEW. (I'm also PI accredited, though I haven't gotten around to joining the Beta Guild yet.)
Ways to contact you: PM, e-mail, and AIM (I'm rarely signed on to AIM, though, so PM is probably better if you want an answer quickly.)
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Don't be afraid. Yeah, it's a little scary at first, with so many people who seem like they know everything, and all the different sub-forums and such, but no one is going to laugh at you if you ask questions. (And even if they do, you won't be able to tell, because you can't see them. :D) In fact, I'd reccommend PMing a random person if you have a question. It's a good way to get a conversation going, and that way you'll get to know someone a little bit better. But really, put yourself out there. Make yourself visible and don't be timid. I bet you'll find a lot of really great friends!

House: Slytherin!
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: (Eg. the BA, SPEW, etc) I'm in... The beta Guild, BA, Restricted section member, student and Professor and I'm a Beta Mentor.
Ways to contact you: You can contact me via PM and I always check both my hotmail and yahoo mail. I use MSN and AIM though mainly MSN.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums:

a)Don't freak out and think that we're mean! We're really nice and us Slytherins are ALWAYS here to help and we love newbies!

b)If you feel uneasy about anything, PM someone who's online with your question; they will normally know unless they're a newbie and wondering the same thing! You can also read the FAQ if something worries you; generally they answer most things but I'm pretty sure the lovely mods update it regulary.

And if you want help in general with anything, I'm a PM away!

Abbi :)

grimlysirius
04-25-2009, 00:48
Name: grimlysirius is my name here and on MNFF, but you can call me Lauren.

House: Gryffindor through and through!

Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Hogwarts Student, and I'm a beta, but not part of the guild... yet.

Ways to contact you: PM, email, and I'm on AIM and YIM all the time.

Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Don't be afraid to... ... get sorted, then go and post in your common room threads; you'll be welcomed with open arms! Don't let our extreme friendliness scare you, you may regret it later when you figure out how wonderful everyone is, and you didn't go meet them head on. Being sorted also opens up a whole new world (literally!) You'll be able to see new parts of the forums and compete in challenges to earn your house points. ... PM a mod or Navy member if you need help, no one will bite you! ... ask for help with your fan fiction in any of the various threads, everyone is willing to help you! ... join groups. They're a great way to get to know people that aren't in your house, and they are lots of fun. ... participate in challenges, they can be challenging , but also lots of fun, and a great way to improve on whatever you're challenge is about.

Congratulations to any newbies who read my entire rant! You have received a complimentary cupcake! Now go and explore, my little butterflies, and have fun!:D

Angela_Prongs
04-25-2009, 01:06
Name: Angela
House: Ravenclaw, of course!
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Ahem. I am a beta, although I'm not part of the guild, because I'm not cool enough.
Ways to contact you: You can always contact me through PM and e-mail. I check them every day.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums:

Ask questions! Seriously, people. I asked about a million questions when I first joined, and even made some friends that way. Everyone active on this forum is always happy, if not thrilled, to answer questions that the little newbies may have. We adore you, newbies. We love it when you come crawling to us in that cute little way of yours to ask why you're called a Turnip, or what a toaster is, or why all the Ravenclaws seem to be obsessed with Severus Snape. Also, making friends is your number one ticket into the forum life. Just PM a random person! (Preferably an active person) Introduce yourself, tell them that you're a confused and adorable newbie, and voila! A beautiful friendship is born.

I would also like to add that using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling is the key to looking impressive on these forums. Every member on these forums is expected to use correct everything to the best of their ability. In fact, netspeak is even against the rules.

Now go crash some parties and giggle to show that you're just too cute to get into trouble! (Just kidding. There will be no getting into trouble, or you'll have to face the Modly Wrath that will, of course, follow)

~Angela

Name: musicalwitch/Emma
House: Gryffindor!
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Gryffindor Tower, and student. And hopefully quidditch player!
Ways to contact you: PM, or email. Occasionally MSN.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums:
- Don't be afraid to ask stupid questions. Chances are, someone wants to know the same thing you do.
- Your common room is the most important thread. House pride, new people, very friendly.
- Challenges or classes, earn points while you write!
- Mods are not as scary as you think, they're here to help, as of course is the Navy.

Good luck guys, and remember to PM anyone if you have an issue!

Name: herm_own_ninny13/Maggie!
House: The one and only Gryffindor!
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Students, Quidditch, and hopefully soon some others once I figure them out, and I'm always down in Gryffindor Tower.
Ways to contact you: PM, email, or if you're lucky enough to catch me when I'm on, AIM!
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Just jump right in and participate! We're always here to answer questions and help you along, but it's so much more fun if you dive into the forums head first.

inspirations
04-25-2009, 05:41
Name: inspirations/Spire
House: Hugglepuff
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I am a SPEWer, school student and poet. :D Plus I lurk in the Duelling club, Three Broomsticks, and the Fiction Junction.
Ways to contact you: Go ahead and PM me - I will try to help as much as I can.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Just dive straight in. Introduce yourself in the appropriate place in your CM [common room] and ask whatever you're not sure about. In Hufflepuff we love newbies and are always willing to answer questions, and I'm sure that's the same in Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. And, also, get involved. Participate in challenges - they earn your house lots of points. They are a great way to improve your writing, but they're also a lot of fun. The challenges range across all sorts of things aswell - bannering, drawing, drabbling, writing longer chapters. Seriously, there is something for everybody. And I would also recommend getting a drabbling thread. A drabble is a piece of writing between 100-500 words, and they're a great way to get feedback on your work and be noticed on the forums.

Okay, so that was more than one tip. But yeah. The main message was get involved really - MNFF is a welcoming community, and you'll fit in as if you've been there all along. Really. You do.

:p

Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I'm a beta, but not yet part of the guild.
Ways to contact you: PM is the best bet, but I also lurk around AIM.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Don't worry about sounding silly when asking questions. You're not going to be judged, and everyone is always nice about it. :D

red haired mom
04-25-2009, 09:21
Name: red haired mom / Wendy
House: Ravenclaw
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I am a student at Hogwarts, a student with Signed Notes to read and post in the Restricted Section, I duel, drabble in the Three Broomsticks, I enjoy a good Quidditch game and I spend more time than I should in the library in the Ravenclaw Tower.:D
Ways to contact you: PM is always the easiest.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Don't let it overwhelm you. Everyone was new at one time. Don't be afraid to ask questions... the only dumb question is the one you were afraid to ask. Be respectful, and always read the rules of each sub-forum. While all of them have the same basic rules, each one has it's own special list of things to and not to do.

Hey everyone! :D

Name: Bellaoc/Bella
House: Gryffindor
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I am a student at Hogwarts, I have a slightly dusty duelling thread, and I pretty much live (drabble) in the Three Broomsticks.
Ways to contact you: PM is the best.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Ask questions! When I first joined, I was so worried about asking questions, that I kind of sat silent for a few days. But no one bites, I promise! Asking questions is the best way to get to know people and get involved. :)

04-25-2009, 13:26
Name: padfoot_returns/Riham
House: Hufflepuff
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I am a Navy Seal, an author, a PI Beta, a student at Hogwarts, a BA banner-maker, a drabbler (although I haven't touched my drabble thread in a while), a poet, been Quidditch captain, and I will soon apply to be a member of SPEW :D
Ways to contact you: PM, email, AIM.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Pretty much just like what everyone else said: Don't. Be. Afraid. To. Ask. Questions. :D When I first came, I was pretty lost and I regret trying to figure out everything on my own instead of just simply asking questions. And even if you don't want to PM a Mod, you can just ask one of us Navy members. My inbox is always open for you :D

Lizzy
04-25-2009, 16:24
Name: Lizzy
House: Ravenclaw
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I'm in the Beta Guild, I'm a Hogwarts Student, I have a (slightly dusty) thread in The Three Broomsticks, and I've been on the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team a few times. Besides that, I pretty much just chill in the Ravenclaw Tower.
Ways to contact you: PM is easiest for both parties, I think, but email and AIM are fine too!
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: I don't have anything original to add, so I'll just say it all: ask questions - no one here's scary, and it's the best way to learn. That way, you can join in right away. When I first joined, I asked quite a few questions, and I can tell you everyone here is helpful. More often than not, you'll get two or three people PMing with help. Participate: as it has been said before, it's a lot more fun to participate than it is to just watch. A lot of the challenges are really inspiring, and in discussions in your House, eveyone's opinion is welcome. Finally, obey the rules, because then everything runs smoothly. ;)

Name: Afifa/Afifa
House: Hufflepuff
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I'm a beta, dueller, drabbler, author, SPEW-er, student, now a Navy member, and a 'Puff, of course. ;)
Ways to contact you: MSN, AIM, PM, email.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: I know how easy it is to become overwhelmed by a site as huge as this. I'd say that the newbie members should read the guides to the forum in the Navy sub forum. After that, just try to get work out the ways of the forum, and mingle yourself in your House. Get to know people there. Start with small, then steadily go all over the forum. Find something you do best [review, discuss, debate, draw, write, etc.] and join that group. Over time, I'm sure you'll improve on lots of things plus make loads of online friends. And, of course, it goes without saying that we're always here to guide you. Good luck! :)

Azhure
04-25-2009, 18:29
O.o O.O o.O

I haven't posted in here yet... Whoops, I should do that.

Name: Azhure
House: Ravenclaw
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I'm a beta in the Beta Guild, a member of the SBBC, a student, part of Poetry, Anyone?, I drabble and write, and I'm a dueller. And, of course, I'm also a sailor (member of Dumbledore's Navy :p).
Ways to contact you: PM, but if you want my email, just PM me and I'll give it to you.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Ask questions and get involved. You're not going to do yourself any good by trying to find your own way around (believe me, I didn't ask any questions when I first joined, and it took me ages to actually get involved). Name: Chelsea, or just Chels :)
House: Hufflepuff
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I'm an author, a Hufflepuff and a student, a happy SPEWer (reviewer), and a fairly regular customer at The Three Broomsticks (drabbler).
Ways to contact you: PMing is easiest, but all my details are in my profile - feel free to contact me however you prefer!
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Read the rules - the basics are explained here at the Check-In Desk, and some sub-forums have their own guidelines for posting which you should also check. But the most important thing the rules will tell you is to be polite and respectful, and write to the best of your ability - other than that, there are boatloads of people willing to answer questions, so don't be afraid! We were all newbies once :D

Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Explore! Check out what each forum has to offer. If you see something that intrests you, jump in! (of course, check the rules first, but in most cases you're free to jump in whenever you feel the need). Explore your House once you're sorted, get to know your housemates, and get involved! And as everyone else said, don't be afraid to ask questions. We don't bite :p

Name: Sitara
House: Gryffindor!
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: Well, obviously the Navy XD The Bannermaker's Association, The Beta Guild and Hogwarts Students. :)
Ways to contact you: PM/ Email. I'm always here. :D
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Ask questions! Explore! I sure as heck wouldn't have been able to find my way around if I didn't bother various people :D So, yeah, bother people is my main advice. But not Snape. Don't go Bothering Snape.

teehee.

-Sitara

Nicole's Edit: Sitara, hehehe . . . there is actually a Navy member by the name of botheringsnape. Her name is Ashley and she's a fellow Slyth. SHE would be a wonderful person to bother . . . just no other Snape!]

Hah! I was really referring to the Potterpal's show XD But, by all means, bother botheringsnape :p

Rhi for HP

Hmm, I was sure I'd posted here a while ago, but I guess that was just my active imagination.

Name: Rhiannon/Rhi/Rhi for HP
House: Slytherin
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I'm a P.I. Accredited beta but I haven't done that in a while and I no longer have a thread. >.< However, I am an active Restricted Section participant, and currently being a Bannermakers Association member makes my world spin very fast and happily.
Ways to contact you: PM, e-mail, sadly AIM no longer (I lost the program).
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Don't give up before you've gotten Sorted (you'll gain access to so many more threads that way!), don't give up if you wish you'd been Sorted elsewhere (you'll meet wonderful people no matter where you are!), don't give up if you don't understand the lingo or what the heck anyone is saying (as this was the first forum I'd ever joined, it took me a while!!), and don't give up if you haven't made friends yet. You will. I guarantee it. ;) So, stick with it and you will see just what a wonderful place this is! :D (You will also learn the marvel that is smilies. When you learn this, you will also learn that with great joy comes great pain as well: posts are limited to six images max.)

botheringsnape
05-03-2009, 20:36
Name: Ashley/botheringsnape
House: Slytherin
Organisations/Groups that you participate in: I'm a Hogwarts student, and I have a relatively quiet drabble thread in The Three Broomsticks. It's a small list for now, but I'm moving on to bigger and better things!
Ways to contact you: By PM, or on AIM. My screenname can be found on my profile.
Your top tip about surviving on the forums: Don't be shy. I wasted months of my time on the forums before Deathly Hallows was released, and I regret that now because as soon as I posted, it was like I'd been doing it for a long time already. You'll pick up on everything very quickly, and everyone around here is nice, so don't shy away from speaking up!

:)
