That’s right, it’s back!
SPEW Category Patrolling is here again, and it needs YOU!
We are starting completely fresh, as many SPEWers who were in charge of categories previously are no longer members, and patrolling as a while has come to a screeching halt. That said, we have almost all the categories open and I would like to fill them up fast so we can get this going again.
The basic idea with Category Patrolling is that volunteering SPEWers take on the responsibility of keeping an eye on one or several categories. We will look for stories that need and/or deserve SPEW quality reviews and post a link to them in a special Category Patrolling thread. This way, SPEWers and other forum members can, at a quick glance and with minimum hassle, find a story to read and review that doesn’t already have a dozen helpful reviews.
So, how do we define a story that “needs” a good quality review? It doesn’t really depend on the number of reviews a story has got (unless we’re talking hundreds), because we all know that twenty one-liners aren’t near as helpful as a single, constructive review. But when patrolling a category, we first and foremost keep an eye out for stories that have less than 5-10 reviews (if chaptered, then per chapter).
The Patroller takes a quick look at the existing reviews – are they long enough to possibly contain something helpful? (We also know that a good review isn’t about word count, but it’s hard to be helpful in less than a couple of paragraphs.) If no, then the story is good for a link in the Patrolling thread. If yes, then we give the review a second glance to be fairly sure that it is helpful – if it is, we thank Merlin (or Founder of your choice) and move on, if it isn’t, we can consider the story for the Patrolling thread.
Category Patrolling will not be hard work – we check our categories a couple of times every week (depending on how busy it is) and post in this thread if there is a story we think needs a review. We won’t include new stories that have been posted within the past 2-3 days, before they’ve had a chance to get good reviews without our assistance.
Patrolling SPEWers do not have to read the story in question, and are not supposed to post any kind of opinion on its quality. We will simply provide the links for our fellow SPEWers and forum members, so that it’s easier to be a helpful, all round reviewer.
This is the list of picked MNFF categories that I will be keeping updated. Firstly, alphabetically after category name, then alphabetically after the SPEWers patrolling them.

As time passes, if you wish to claim more categories, you may.
Below, you will find the form for posting links to stories that you think deserve reviews. Please don’t link to more than 4-5 stories per post. If no one else has posted since your last entry and you want to draw attention to new stories, you are allowed to double-post instead of editing your previous post.
