category problem - SOLVED

Hey, I have a question. I'm sorry if this doesn't belong here. I'm trying to submit a one-shot and I'm trying to fill in all of the required areas, but when I go to select my category, it won't let me do anything after I click romance. So the box that is required won't let me do anything in it, and at the bottom of my screen it says "error on page" when I click in the offending box. I hope someone can help me, and thank you in advance!

I moved your question from the Ask A Moderator thread to this forum which is used specifically for the purpose of resolving glitches.

I don't think I'm understanding the problem. Are you saying you're not able to select the Romance category? Romance category should not be selectable anyway; you're required to submit your chapter in a sub-category of Romance. The box you are referring to is the category box?

It may help if you made a screenshot.

I have a problem that I saw this under the glitch thread, but Beth said she moved it here. I'll try to understand it as best I can.

This afternoon, I tried to submit a story under the Water challange. I when to 'Add New Story' and went down to select the Contest catagory. But as soon as I click it, I was taken to a little page that said 'Back to Main Catagory' with no other options. Even the 'Back to Main Catagory' option didn't.

I tried it with all the catagories and they all did the exact same thing. Because of this, it's impossible for any contest stories or any stories to end up in the queue.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Beth, I am having the same problem. The only difference is, is that I went to 'Most Recent' and when I click on categories such as Romance and General there is no option to go to a sub-category. I will take a screenshot and edit as soon as MNFF is working for me again, it says there is an error at the moment.

Edit: It also wouldn't let me go back to main categories.

I kind of understand what you're saying BertieBotsBeans741, but it doesn't seem to mean what OliveOil_Med or moldyvoldie were saying. I tried it out myself and it seems to be working for me. Can you try again now, while I'm not altering the codes?

OliveOil_Med, can you try it again too? It may have been a temporary glitch since I was recoding codes pertaining to submitting stories.

No, the glitch is still there. Trying going under 'Add New Story' and select the Contest or any other catagory on your story account, Bethie. Then you'd be able to see for yourself.

I too am having problems with the Romance section but it is in the advanced search tool. It will not give any sub categories it just reads "back to main categories". I tried switching skins and still have the same problem. It has been doing this all day it's 5:20 pm right now so it is post code altering.

BTW I like the date submitted column on the manage stories page.

EDIT: Nix that, it now only does it in the Zenlike skin as well as giving me multiple listings of the same story when doing a search. I have just decided to permanately change skins.

OliveOil_Med - Yes, that's how I check to see if something works for me. I follow the exact steps you detail so unless something's been left out, I'm not getting the error you're describing.

butter_beer_drinker and OliveOil_Med - Make sure you have javascript turned on. Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced.

Javascript is on, and I even tried restarting my computer. I even tried to submit on a few different skins. Still no change. I'm going to try going back later tonight to see if it resolves itself.

If it doesn't would it be possible to submit my contest piece without a catagory and just attach a note explaining to the mods what happened? I would really like to get it in as soon as possible.

OliveOil_Med, no, it's impossible to submit a story without a category. Talk to the moderator in charge of the challenge to see if she'll make an exception.

I'm having a similar problem. I want to submit my story under the General Fics category, but when I click on it, I am only presented with the Marauder/Post-HW/Mystery/Historical/Poetry options. Is there anyway to submit a General Fic that's not in one of those categories? Thanks.

I'm working off of a library computer now, only to encounter more problems with the contest catagory. When I select add new story, it opens up to the elements challange, but not to the sub-catagories: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Idea

When ever I click on another contest catagory, it opens to it's own subsection, but since the Elements challange is first on the list, it looks as though it is already selected and won't open to it's sub-catagories. And whenever I try to take it off the Elements selection, it just opens up to another catagory, and I'm right back where I started. The funny thing is that the system allows me selection the Elements catagory as a whole for a catagory, but not the sub-groups.

And then I tried another computer at a cafe with a much slower speed. I was able to click another catagory and reclick to the elements challange, only to find there were no sub-catagories period.

Can anyone give me any advice?

The bug is supposed to be fixed with a script update I'll be doing sometime soon. However, there are some quirks in the script that supposedly have caused other problems. I'm therefore holding off on an upgrade until the script has been fixed.

Categories should be fixed now. If it doesn't, clear your cookies/cache and try again. Locking this unless someone lets me know otherwise.

Hate to be a bother, :o but I'm still having issues with submitting a fic simply to the General catagory like angelicxdiscord was. Is there a way to just submit to general yet? Thanks a lot!

The General category is now selectable.

I'll keep this thread open for one or two more days in case an issue comes up. But I'm pretty sure it's usable without any glitches.

Bethiecal, this is just to let you know that I'm having the same problem is Olive. Javascript is on and all. And my entry is a one shot for the Colour of Love prompt.

I know I PMed you already but this is just to put down in the records. I tried submitting multiple times and on different skins but it still doesn't work. When I click on any cat, it just says 'Back to main catagories' and then, doesn't let me do anything else. Cookie clearing doesn't help either.

And when I preview it, the catagory is 'orphan'.

Then I don't think you have the same problem as OliveOil_Med. She couldn't see the sub-categories. You're saying you don't see any categories.

I know this is a problem for Humor and Dark/Angsty and Alternate Universe since they don't have any sub-categories. When I click one of those, sometimes it comes up as "Back to Main Categories" with nothing else to select. However, when I press one of them again, the category comes up.

If you preview it without a category selected, yes it will turn up as orphan.

I've been trying at different times Beth, but it doesn't work. I can update a story and add a new chapter but I can't submit a new story. Whenever I pick any cat, it says 'Go back to main catagory'. I'm going to try it with another comp tomorrow to see if it works and I'll keep you updated.

For some strange reason, I was allowed to select a cat today at about 5 Malaysian time. I was using the same comp and all, so I have no idea why the site decided to be nice to me. :confused: But I got my story in. SQUEE!:)
