Welcome to the aftermath of a hacker attack combined with a larger-than-normal database.
Since there have been an overwhelmingly large number of glitch reports, we're going to consolidate them all on one thread so that it's easier for me to see what needs major work and what just needs a simple code change.
Please report your error(s) using the following format:
Date you first received error:
Is it recurrent:
What section(s) are you getting the error: (a story; a username; submission page; etc)
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word:
Please do not report an error already reported.
Here are the following errors and possible solutions:
Glitch:
Author page not showing up with some funny code at the top of the page
Solution:
Nothing; someone (most likely Marauder by Midnight) is tinkering around backstage and has made a small boo-boo
Glitch:
HTTP 501 Not Implemented
Solution:
1. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
2. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
3. Click to clear the HTTP 1.1 check box, and then click OK.
4. Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, do not complete the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, go to the next step.
5. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
6. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
7. Click to clear the Show friendly HTTP error messages check box.
8. Try to view a Web page to reproduce the error message and to receive a new, more descriptive error message. This new error message may be similar to the following:
HTTP version not supported by program name.
Note the name of the program in this new error message.
9. The program name that you noted in step 8 may be the cause of this issue. Either remove this program, or contact the manufacturer of the program to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.
If that doesn't work, try another computer.

Date you first received error: Today, er, the 3rd Feb.
Is it recurrent: It's happened three times, yes.
What section(s) are you getting the error: I'm trying to switch my Winter Tales Challenge into the Post-Hogwarts cat.
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word:
That category is locked. Please select a sub-category.
Thanks moddies :]
--Kat
EDIT: I've tried doing that. I go on to press okay, Preview, Add Story, etc. But it's still in the Seasons Change cat...

Roxy told me to post this up on here:
Date you first received error: Today
Is it recurrent: Yep. Today at least it has been.
What section(s) are you getting the error: when I try to edit my personal info on the MNFF page.
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word:
Method Not Implemented
POST to /user.php not supported.
It just won't let me edit any of my personal info. Like the page comes up but when I click on submit, that error message comes up.
Good luck moddies! I wish we could feed the hackers to Fluffy...lol.

I dont know if this is happening to everyone, and if it is, my apologies for not listening properly :D
Date you first received error: Er, i believe it was the day of Mugglenet being hacked, only it has gotten incresingly worse
Is it recurrent: Yuhuh
What section(s) are you getting the error: On the submission page. I was tryingt o upload a story, and it wont letme select a catagory
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word:
"that catagory is locked. Please select a sub-catagory." Even in things like humour. Or a sub-catagory of romance.
Mod edit: Yeah, we know about that one. Here's how to get around it:
1. Put in all your information on the submission page.
2. Select your category and, if applicable, sub-category as you normally would
3. Cue pop-up.
4. Click the "Okay" button to close the pop-up.
5. Forget you ever saw that pop-up.
6. Click "Preview," as you should always do anyway; people get frustrated with being rejected for formatting errors when they've got the solution right there on the page. But I digress.
7. After you've made sure everything is as you had put it in (including the category), click "Submit."
8. Your story should be in queue. Go to "Manage Stories" to see if your story shows up there. If not, repeat. If it works, go ahead and relax (as best you can) and wait for your validation/rejection letter
Edit: thankyou so much!

I've tried everything you've suggested for the error HTTP 501 Not Implemented, even changed computers and tried again, and it still won't let me edit my personal info.
Beth: Bio info is down for sure. Sorry!

I don't think I 've seen this before, and I'm pretty sure this goes here so:
Date you first received error: It was about a week ago, I'm guessing Monday(4/4/08)
Is it recurrent:Only when I try t change my avie
What section(s) are you getting the error: in the user cp when I try to change my avie on the boards
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 4003940 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4864 bytes) in /home/fanfiction/public_html/forum/includes/class_dm_user.php on line 317
This isn't that big of a deal, it still changes the avie and all you have to do to get around it is to click back and refresh and your new avie's there. It's just really annoying.
(Sorry if this wasn't supposed to be here, I didn't know if this was for the archives, or both the beta boards and the archives, so I took a chance:o )
~Rachael
Beth: I'm not getting that error when I switch avatars. :/ But I'll bring it up when I contact our host.
Edit: Thanks!

Date you first received error: Today (13th February 2008)
Is It Recurrent: Yes. It happens everytime i try to send a PM.
What section(s) are you getting the error: When i try to send a PM, i fill out the subject and the name of who i'm sending it to and the message, but the age then refreshes and the message is blank, and it comes up with a warning message at the top of the PM box.
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word:
Please complete both the subject and message fields.
I would usually leave it for now and then try again tomorrow, but i'm trying to send my Gauntlet story to my Beta, so it's kind of urgent :D
Sorry if this isn't meant for this thread, i wasn't certain where to post this.
~Heather
Beth: Try to PM it directly to the person; under their forum name, there is an option to "Send PM". The page refreshes automatically without you pushing anything? You didn't click "Enter" by accident before sending the PM?
EDIT: Ah. The message was too long, i think. I put the whole fic in the PM isntead of sending it chapter by chapter, so it was too long :) Silly me. Thank you for your help!

Date you first received error: two days ago, but when I got it back then, I was able to get past it. Today, I can't move beyond it.
Is it recurrent: Yes
What section(s) are you getting the error: When I try to submit a new story (I'm trying to post the next chapter of my Gauntlet)
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word:
Warning: include(includes/emailer.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/fanfiction/public_html/stories.php on line 380
Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening 'includes/emailer.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/fanfiction/public_html/stories.php on line 380
Fatal error: Call to undefined function sendemail() in /home/fanfiction/public_html/stories.php on line 402
((this whole message shows up on a black page, in black font. Before I highlighted it to copy and paste, the only words I was able to see were the "function.include" -- they were written in blue))

Just a special little note here: I'm woefully stupid. This could not be a glitch at all, rather my stupidity. Don't pay it much mind.
Date you first received error: Yesterday and today.
Is it recurrent: Twice it's happened now.
What section(s) are you getting the error: My e-mail
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word:
Hmm... I don't think that's nessecery. I've gotten two e-mails saying that I have private messages and when I check... no message. Not only is it discouraging... it's downright lies! Lies I tell you! Of course, I could just be getting the e-mails after I get the messages, and then I forget that I've gotten the message. Which is more likely, but if not, it's still good that y'all know.

This pertains to submitting reviews on MNFF, not to anything in the forums. I was told I should address it here.
Date you first received error: It's happened on occasion before the hack-attack.
Is it recurrent: Yes, it is everytime I try to submit a review.
What section(s) are you getting the error: Posting a review at the end of a chapter
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word: I don't get a message, per se. Once I submit the page either goes nohwere, freezes up, or it takes me back to the login page and my review is gone. It's really frustrating as I'd like to pass on my thoughts to the many wonderful stories I read, but I'm also a part of my House's Review Crew and the glitch is impeding my work there.
Thanks!

Date you first received error: Yesterday, 3/10/08
Is it recurrent: Yes
What section(s) are you getting the error: My PM inbox (I'm trying to delete some messages because my inbox is nearly full)
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word: No private messages selected.
Karin: That is not a glitch. You must select a message for deletion by clicking on the box next the message you wish to delete. If you are in the message you are trying to delete, you need to click on the little white box in the 'Delete this Message' box at the bottom of the message. A check mark must appear in the little white box in order for the message to actually be deleted when you select the Delete option.
Edit: I did select a message, but it won't let me delete them.
Edit 2: It fixed itself. I'm very confused as to why it happened and why it stopped, but I'm not complaining.

Hello. I hope this is the right place for this - if not then I'm sorry.
Date you first received error: Can't quite remember but it's been happening frequently for the last week at least.
Is it recurrent: Yes
What section(s) are you getting the error: (a story; a username; submission page; etc) From everywhere on the MNFF Beta Boards.
Error message copy-pasted word-for-word: I don't get a message - like others I seem to be getting logged out of the site on a frequent basis. For example, if I take time to write a message then hit submit then I get taken back to the log-in page where I log in again before my post is submitted. This also happens if I'm just browsing the site and leave the computer for a few minutes - I'll come back and click on a post and have to log back in before I can view it.
However, I've also just noticed that I'm not receiving e-mail notifaction when threads I have subscribed to have been updated. This was working fine but hasn't been for the past few days at least. These threads I have subscribed to an request instant notification.
Thank-you,
Ruth

Everytime I answer a review for my stories, when I submit something weird happens. At the end of the review just before where I type ~Nicole (thats just how I always finish my answered reviews) it comes up rnrn. I thought I perhaps had accidently typed rnrn before I clicked submit but it kept happening! Its nothing big just thought I mention it. Just check out my reviews for stories if you don't know what I'm talking about.
Date you first received error: Today (24/3/08)
Is it recurrent: Yes
What section(s) are you getting the error: When I answer a review
Thanks,
~Nicole

We already have a whole forum for glitches. Please do not use this thread anymore.
