A Squib's Journey by ntoforhp
Rated: 6th-7th Years [Reviews - 4]

Summary: Jeffery Potter always had sensed he was somehow different from his playmates, and at eight years old he found out how different when he overhead his father, Pontius, tell Jeffery’s mother, Portia, “Our boy doesn’t have a magical bone in his body. He’s a Squib.”

This was a blow to his parents for two reasons. The first was they were both the only children in a long lines of highly respected magical families, and the second was Jeffery had not been born until his mother was thirty-two years old and his father forty.

To his parent great surprise and greater joy, Portia became pregnant at forty-one. His brother, James, was born about two months after Jeffery’s tenth birthday. From an early age it was evident that James had inherited his parents’ magical talent.

Since James’ birth their mother was frequently bedridden, Jeffery had to tend to his baby brother’s needs quite often and James came to rely on Jeffery. As for Jeffery, all his friends had gone off to school at Hogwarts and he would have very lonely without James. The boys became almost inseparable.

Ever since his seventeenth birthday Jeffery had been feeling that there was no future for him in Godric’s Hollow. James could now take care of himself and be helpful to their mother. Jeffery felt if he stayed any longer he would be destined to the menial life of a Squib. It was time to move on. The question was where and how.

The finding of Jeffery’s journal thirty-five years later will lead Harry Potter on a journey to discover his roots and also something about himself.

The Skeletons' Tale by Oregonian
Rated: 1st-2nd Years [Reviews - 3]

Summary: "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet," wrote Shakespeare. This story arose from a 500-word drabble in a Beta Forum challenge, presenting a character who gained new and startling information about his ancestry and acted upon it. I expanded the drabble into a full story for my Creative Writing class at the local community college, necessarily deleting obvious mentions of magic and changing the characters' names. Thus, Draco, Astoria, and Scorpius Malfoy have disguised themselves as Denis, Aurelie and Silvestre Paridelle, and the Death Eaters are masquerading as Nazis, with a little jiggering of the timeline to accommodate the date difference between the Second Wizarding War and the Second World War.
With its Harry Potter roots thus concealed, the story was well-received by my instructor and classmates; nobody suspected a thing, but you, my readers, will instantly see and understand everything.

Thanks to my instructor and classmates for being my unwitting beta readers. Their comments and suggestions were valuable and improved the story greatly. The story is rated Alternate Universe for the accommodations that had to be made, but I hope you will enjoy it anyway.

The Other Prophecy by IWriteToSurvive
Rated: 3rd-5th Years [Reviews - 5]

Summary: Hermione Granger is in a dilemma. A dilemma she never thought could happen. Least of all to her. During the battle of the Department of Mysteries in the trio’s fifth year, Hermione discovers something else in the Hall of Prophecy. Something involving her. For two years, Hermione kept what she discovered a secret, only confiding in her cat, Crookshanks. After extensive research and several well-thought out plans, Hermione came to the conclusion that there was only one thing she could do to ensure that the prophecy she discovered when she was fifteen would never come true. She had to run. Leave everything and everyone she had ever cared about behind. It was the only way to keep them all safe. Especially him. Five years after leaving her life behind, Hermione returns to England, in a disguise, of course.

In a final attempt at bravery, a stolen kiss and the sacrifice of taking a deadly curse to end it all, Hermione reveals herself, and so does her murderer.

This in an AU story about Hermione Granger and all her secrets.

Pairing: Fred/Hermione.

Graves by Oregonian
Rated: 1st-2nd Years [Reviews - 0]

Summary: Past Featured StoryIn December of 1997, Harry visits his parents' graves in Godric's Hollow and realizes that they are the end toward which we all are headed.

Written for the Sixth Annual October Triathlon: Race to Hallowe'en.
Inspired by this fragment of verse:
We do lie beneath the grass
In the moonlight, in the shade
Of the yew-tree. They that pass
Hear us not. We are afraid
They would envy our delight
In our graves by glow-worm light.
